Preliminary hearing set for local woman accused of abandoning corpse

A Kennett woman charged with allegedly abandoning a corpse appeared in court last week, with another appearance being scheduled for early November.

Lisa McCormick, 43, has been scheduled to appear before a judge on November 9, at 1 p.m., for her preliminary hearing.

McCormick was arrested approximately one week ago, on Saturday, September 22, after Autumn Medley, 20, of Kennett, was found dead on County Road 322, near Gibson, Mo., on Friday, September 21, 2012.

McCormick was charged with a class D felony of abandonment of a corpse.

McCormick posted a surety bond of $25,000 on Tuesday, September 25, and appeared in court Friday, September 28.

The Dunklin County Major Case Squad was activated to investigate the case. Investigating agencies include the Dunklin County Sheriff's Office, the Missouri State Highway Patrol Division of Drug and Crime Control, Kennett Police Department, Maiden Police Department, Holcomb Police Department, and the Dunklin County Prosecutor's Office.

Medley's death continues to be under investigation.

Dunklin County Coroner James Powell is awaiting results of a toxicology report.
