Mary Lou Hampton Bearden, 83, of Malden died Thursday, July 19, 2012, at Saint Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau. She was a member of First United Methodist Church. She was the former first lady Mayor of Malden, City Clerk of Malden, Valedictorian in 1946 at Malden School, a member of United Methodist Women, Adene Keller Music Club, Malden Alumni Association, and taught Bible Class at Golden Living Center.

Born in North Little Rock, Ark., on December 21, 1928, she was the daughter of the late Sam G. Hamilton and Bettie (Buchanan) Hamilton. She married Floyd "Sodie" Hampton, who survives. She later married James Bearden, who preceded her in death.

She was also preceded in death by one sister, Emma Mae Grisham.

Survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law, Bill and Connie Hampton of Malden and John and Peggy Hampton of Malden; three grandsons, William Robert Hampton of Orlando, Fla., J.J. Hampton of Malden and Joe Joe Cecil of Dexter; one granddaughter, Jenny Wright of Poplar Bluff, five great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

Visitation was held Sunday, July 22, at Bradshaw Funeral home in Malden. Funeral services were conducted Monday, July 23, in the funeral home chapel with Rev. Bob Phillips and Rev. Pam Ekey officiating. Burial was in Memorial Park Cemetery at Malden. Bradshaw Funeral Home of Malden was in charge of arrangements. Family suggests memorials be made to Malden United Methodist Church, American Cancer Society, St. Jude Children's Hospital or 18 Fore Life.
