Mildred Callis Farr, born June 10, 1913, died April 22, 2012, after a full life.
She had spent the last seven years in a nursing home in Chesterfield, Mo. She was a retired teacher who lived most of her life in the boot heel of Missouri, sometimes rowing kids to safety after a southeast Missouri flood, rescuing piano and books from a burning school, and calming kids after a tornado ripped off part of the school roof.
She is survived by her son-in-law, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren who currently live in St. Louis, Mo., and Dallas, Texas.
A memorial service will be held for her at 10 a.m., June 2, 2012, at the Living Word Methodist Church, 17315 Manchester Rd., Wildwood, MO.
In memory of her two daughters, Barbara and Patricia, both of whom passed before her from cancer, the family would be honored by donations made to support breast cancer research and prevention.
