Demaris Ann McGhee, 86, daughter of Joseph Albert and Odessa Reed McGhee, was born Aug. 19, 1925, in Caruthersville, Mo., and passed away Monday, April 30, 2012.
Demaris moved to Albany, Mo., in 2010. She was a former resident of St. Louis, Mo., and Kennett.
She was preceded in death by her parents; an infant brother, John David McGhee, and a close friend, Katherine O. Kelmell.
She was a spirited and determined individual. Once she set her mind on a task or adventure, she pursued it with all heart and soul. Among those adventures included scuba diving, bowling perfect 300 games, becoming a licensed airplane pilot and inventor. She began her career working in the family pharmacy business alongside her father, who was a pharmacist. She served with the WAC in the Army and later moved to Wichita, Kan., to work as a riveter on the B-47s at Boeing Aircraft. Later in her career, while living in St. Louis, she became a nursing assistant for private duty nursing care.
Survivors include her siblings, Joe Reed McGhee and wife, Bett, of Kennett, Odessa Sample, of Paragould, Ark., Jim McGhee and wife, Barb, of Kennett, Tom McGhee and wife, Rosie, of Winter Haven, Fla., and Charles McGhee and wife, Candy, of Jefferson City, Mo., and several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews and great-great-nieces and nephews.
Graveside services and burial will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, May 12, in the Oak Ridge Cemetery at Kennett.
The family requests no flowers, however memorial contributions may be made to the Demaris McGhee Memorial Fund or the Alzheimer's Association, in care of the Roberson-Polley Chapel, 403 N. Hundley, Albany, Mo. 64402.
