Orval Henry Deweese, 80, of Gideon, Mo., passed away Friday, March 23, 2012, at his residence.

Born March 28, 1931, in Philadelphia, Miss., son of the late Henry Levi Deweese and Lura Jane Lee Deweese, he was a U.S. Army veteran, and a member and deacon of the First Baptist Church in Gideon. He was a retired educator after serving for 34 years as teacher and principal. He obtained a Masters Degree and a Specialist Degree in Education from Mississippi State University .

On May 24, 1958, in Clarkton, Mo., he married Shirley Midkiff.

Survivors include his wife, Shirley Deweese, of Gideon; three daughters, Janie Garris, of Cape Girardeau, Mo., Regina Schaffer, of Malden, Mo., and Stacy Whitfield and husband, Don, of Kennett; four grandchildren, Jillian Schaffer, Zachary Schaffer, both of Malden, and Kelsey Whitfield, and Dalton Whitfield, both of Kennett.

He was preceded in death by two sisters, Larue Stone and Reva Jean Carter, and two sons-in-law, Gene Garris and Noel Schaffer.

Visitation was held from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., Saturday, March 24, at Bradshaw Funeral Home in Malden.

Services were held at 2 p.m., Sunday, March 25, at Bradshaw Chapel in Malden with Rev. Gene Lancaster officiating.

Burial was in the Memorial Gardens Cemetery at Kennett.
