Wanda Jo McDaniel, a resident of Kennett, for over 56 years, passed away at the age of 84 on Monday, March 26, 2012.
She was born Aug. 10, 1927, in Russellville, Ark., to Joseph Wylie Henry and Anna Alma Prince Henry. She graduated from Russellville High School then attended Ouachita Baptist College graduating Magna Cum Laude in 1949 where she received her Bachelor of Arts degree. She went on to receive her Bachelor of Music Education degree at Southwestern, now Rhodes College, in Memphis, Tenn. She taught music in the Memphis Public Schools before marrying Jack McDaniel and moving to Kennett in 1956. She taught music in the Kennett Schools for 1 year before starting her family. She had two children, Joseph Winston and Anna Jacquelynn, and became a private voice instructor in the home. She was active in the Child Evangelism Fellowship having conducted Good News Club for the area's children for 11 years. As an active member of the United Methodist Church, Wanda started the present youth choir program when she was Music Education Director of the church in 1961. She taught Sunday School for several years and at one time was the adult choir director and continued to be a faithful member of the choir. For many years Wanda was also active in the local Wednesday Music Club where she served as a President in 1981-82. In 1971, she started a Thursday morning prayer group in her home that continued on until the rapid decline of her health just two weeks ago. Furthermore, after her children were grown, Wanda devotedly helped Jack in the downtown McDaniel Firestone Store. She was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother and will be greatly missed. Touching the lives of all whom she came in contact with, she was a true disciple of the Lord.
Preceded in death were her three older sisters, Cleo Wilson, of Rodeo, Calif., LaVerne Powell, of San Leandro, Calif., and Jerry Pate, of Cave Creek, Ariz.
She is survived by her husband, Jack; her children, Mr. and Mrs. Joe McDaniel and Anna Siebenhuener; her six grandchildren Leanna, Sarah Lynn, Joelle and Elice Siebenhuener, David Winston and Alec Joseph McDaniel.
Visitation will be from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., Thursday, March 29, at McDaniel Funeral Service in Kennett.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m., Friday, March 30, at First United Methodist Church in Kennett with Rev. Gary Carter officiating.
Burial will follow in the Memorial Gardens Cemetery at Kennett.
Pallbearers are Ward Billings, Ronnie Brogden, Grover Shannon, Joe McDaniel, Larry Don Swindle and Gerald Granger.
Honorary pallbearers are John McMullan, Barney Greenway and Bill Walsh.
