Sherry Hobbs

Friday, February 24, 2012

Sherry Katherine Diggs Hobbs, 65, formerly of Paragould, Ark., died Saturday, Feb. 18, 2012, in Miami, Fla.

Sherry had lived in South Florida since 1977 but always missed her Paragould, Cardwell and Arbyrd roots, family and friends.

Her death came after months of acute care following a series of seizures in mid-November.

Sherry was born Jan. 7, 1947, in Jonesboro, Ark., the daughter of the late Louis and Nola Diggs. She attended grade schools in Arbyrd and Cardwell and graduated from Paragould High School in 1965. Sherry spoke often and lovingly of cherished memories and friendships from those days. She attended Arkansas State University and graduated from Memphis State University in 1971 with a Bachelor of Science in Technology. In her early days in Miami, she helped plan the construction of Miami-Dade County's elevated train system, Metrorail.

She met her husband, Robert Larry Hobbs, an Associated Press newsman, in Miami on Valentine's Day in 1975. They would have celebrated their 35th wedding anniversary April 9.

Survivors include her husband, Robert Larry Hobbs, of Miami, FL; a sister, Rosemary Buck, of Paragould; an uncle, Howard Eldridge, of Paragould; an aunt, Juanita Diggs, of Maryville, Tenn.; a nephew, Air Force Lt. Col. Brian Buck, of Ruston, La.

Visitation will be from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., today, Friday, Feb. 24, at Heath Funeral Home in Paragould.

The celebration of her life will be held at 1:30 p.m., Saturday, Feb. 25, at Heath Colonial Chapel with Rev. Angie Gage officiating.

Burial will follow in the Memorial Gardens Cemetery.

Memorials may be made in her name to any animal welfare society.
