She was born July 20, 1923, in Kennett. She was preceded in death by her mother, Mamie Ray Carter and one son, Jimmy Douglas Epps.
Maxine married James M. Epps on Aug. 8, 1940, in Poplar Bluff, Mo., and they recently celebrated 71 years of marriage.
She was a well known beautician at Tessie Mae's Beauty Shop in Poplar Bluff for 14 years. She served as a faithful wife to her husband who was pastor of many Baptist churches for 55 years, most of which were in the Southeast Missouri area. She and her husband moved to Springfield in February of 2004 and joined the Berean Baptist Church the first Sunday in March. She was very faithful to every service and the Golden Ager Activities. She and her husband enjoyed going to old fashioned camp meetings around the country.
Maxine is survived by her husband, James, of the home; one son, Gerald Ray Epps and wife, Yu-mei, of St. Charles, Mo., and two daughters, Barbara Sue Kendrick and husband, Al, of Wentsville, Mo., and Pauletta Jean Marshall and husband, Claude, of Springfield. She is also survived by seven grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren, along with a host of family and friends.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m., today, Tuesday, Jan. 24, at the Berean Baptist Church, 507 E. Norton Rd, Springfield, MO 65803.
A graveside service will be held at 1 p.m., Wednesday, Jan. 25, in the Woodlawn Cemetery at Poplar Bluff.
