Gene Lemonds, son of the late Albert Lemonds and Dessie Neal Lemonds Spicer, was born April 14, 1922, in Kennett, and passed away Monday, Jan. 16, 2012, at the age of 89 years, 9 months and 2 days.

Gene married Olene Haraway on Sept. 1, 1947.

Survivors include his wife, Olene Lemonds, of Kennett; one son, Jim Lemonds and wife, Mary Ann, of St. Louis, Mo.; one daughter, Mary Cowart and husband, Randy, of High Point, N.C.; five grandchildren, John Cowart, of Memphis, Tenn., Sarah Pugh, of Bentonville, Ark., Christen McCuiston, of Brunswick, Ga., Venessa Cowart, of Atlanta, Ga., and Emily Lemonds, of Madrid, Spain; seven great-grandchildren, and other relatives and many friends.

He was preceded in death by one grandson, Ben Lemonds.

Gene served in the United States Air Force during WWII. He was a member of Kennett First Baptist Church, Kennett Lions Club and VFW.

Visitation will be from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., today, Wednesday, Jan. 18, at McDaniel Funeral Service in Kennett.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m., Thursday, Jan. 19, at McDaniel Chapel in Kennett with Rev. Ed Jansson officiating.

Burial will follow in the Oak Ridge Cemetery at Kennett.

Pallbearers are Bob Plumley, Robert Plumley, John Cowart, J.C. Hawkins, Rick Cowart, Bob McCuiston.

VFW Members will serve as honorary pallbearers.
