Velma Venett Scott, daughter of the late Lester Scott and Nannie Gurley Scott, was born on March 15, 1921, in Scotts Hill, Tenn., and departed this life Sunday, Jan. 15, 2012, in Kennett, at the age of 90 years and 10 months.

Velma married Richard Scott in Sept. 1940. He preceded her in death on April 15, 1985. She was also preceded in death by two children, Ronnie Scott and Carolyn Laster; one brother, Ruben Scott; four sisters: Edna, Eudie, Berdie, and Evelyn and four grandchildren.

Her survivors include one son, Larry Scott, of Judsonia, Ark.; three daughters, Barbara Norville, of Hernando, Miss., Peggy Laster of Kennett and Phyllis Becker, of Steele, Mo.; 12 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; seven great-great-grandchildren; three brothers, Ellis Scott, Marvin Scott, and Roy Scott, all of Poplar Bluff, Mo., and other relatives and many friends.

Velma was a member of West Side Church of Christ in Kennett.

Visitation will be from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m., Wednesday, Jan. 18, at McDaniel Funeral Service in Kennett.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m., Wednesday, Jan. 18, at McDaniel Chapel in Kennett with Roland Glover officiating.

Burial will follow in the Mt. Zion Cemetery at Steele, Mo.

Pallbearers are Jimmy Ingram, Bubba Potts, Matt Ross, Tuffy Laster, Hoss Davis, and Bob Tomlinson.
