Max Eugene Clayton, 71, of Campbell, died Saturday, December 31, 2011, at SE Missouri Hospital in Cape Girardeau.
Mr. Clayton was born on November 1, 1940 in Braggadocio, son of the late Luther and Ester Tucker Clayton. He was a farmer and was a member of the First Baptist Church in Campbell.
On July 14, 1984, he married Phyllis Singer in Campbell. She survives.
Other survivors include one son, Mark Clayton and wife, Rita of Bernie; one daughter, Sharon McKinney and husband, Russ of Little Rock; three step-daughters, Joyce Cowart and husband, James of Campbell, Debra Ward and husband, Ricky of Holcomb, Dawn Ward and husband, Ron of Holcomb; nine grandchildren, Maxine Burns of Poplar Bluff, Missy Haygood of Holcomb, Phyllis Rankin of Campbell, Anthony Burkman of Campbell, Colby Ward of Holcomb, Dustin Ward of Holcomb, Zackery Hall of Little Rock, Jacob Clayton of Bernie, Maleah Clayton of Bernie; eight great-grandchildren; two brothers, Paul Clayton of Jamesville, Wisconsin, Gilbert Clayton of Toney, Alabama; one sister, Audrey Eakens of Clarkton.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one step-son, David Mitchell.

Visitation will be from 6 -- 8 p.m., Tuesday, at the Landess Funeral Home in Campbell. The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday with Stan Dauck officiating. Burial will be in Brown Chapel Cemetery in Broseley.
