Virginia Pauline Ward, 92, of Portageville, Mo., passed away Thursday, Dec. 29, 2011, at St. Francis Hospital in Cape Girardeau, Mo.
Born Feb. 12, 1919, in Cotton Wood Point, Mo., daughter of the late Maude Abbott Cook and Samuel Felix Cook, she was a past member of the Hayward Methodist Church.
On Nov. 21, 1937, in Portageville, she married Norvil Ward, who preceded her in death on Jan. 19, 1977. She was also preceded in death by her parents Maude Abbott Cook and Samuel Felix Cook; a son, Gary Ward; a brother, Samuel Cook, Jr., and a sister, Geraldine Cook.
Survivors include three sons, Norvil Ward, of Steele, Mo., Larry Eugene Ward, of Portageville, and Billy Wes Ward, of Swartz Creek, Mich.; one brother, Russell Cook, of Tyler, Texas; 11 grandchildren, Tyrone Ward, Trena Underwood, Laurie Ann Kuhl, William Bradley Ward, Brian Scott Ward, Rebecca Shay Goff, David Michael Ward, Robert Craig Ward, Gary Clinton Ward, Jody Renee Reynolds and Jason Kurt Ward; 22 great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren.
Visitation was held from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m., Sunday, Jan. 1, 2012, at DeLisle Funeral Home in Portageville.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m., Monday Jan. 2, 2012, at DeLisle Funeral Home.
Burial was in the Portageville Cemetery.
Pallbearers were her grandsons, Tyrone Ward, William Ward, Brian Ward, David Ward, Craig Ward, Gary C. Ward and Jason Ward.
