This lucky columnist has managed to find himself in a coaching role for one of the 5 to 6-year-old teams. Helping me to mold the young strikers will be Dr. Rajiv Mallik.
On Thursday afternoon, we held our first practice and managed to introduce the children to the sport. We did some dribbling, some passing, some shooting, and before we sent the kids on their way, we held a little scrimmage.
The kids seemed to really enjoy the scrimmage part of practice, and I learned a new soccer move. Apparently, headstands are an up and coming part of defense. It definitely distracts the other players.
All joking aside, I think the kids enjoyed it and I am looking forward to next week's practice.

No one likes to see our mothers and fathers, sons and daughters, brothers and sisters, neighbors and friends head overseas on military operations, but we have to remember that in order to enjoy our life as we do, we must have those who serve.
I want to personally say thank you to all of the military personnel who serve and have served this country, and to our friends who are heading out, stay safe and come home soon.

Congratulations are in order for Jake and Lindsey Crafton.
On Friday, August 26, the Craftons welcomed their baby girl, Layla Grace, into the world.
I wonder if Daddy Crafton will be sporting the pink and green and zebra stripes when he takes her around town?

Congratulations also go out to Becky and Brian Branum, who welcomed their baby boy, Elijah Adam, into the world on Wednesday, August 31.
I'm wondering how Kennett will fare in the next census? The population seems to be exploding lately.
