Viola Bertha Lowery, 99, of Malden died Tuesday, August 9, 2011, at Golden Living Center in Malden. She was a member of the Carnation Chapter 141 Order of Eastern Star and a member of First Baptist Church in Gideon.

Born in Hartshorn, Mo., on January 2, 1912, she was the daughter of the late David Albert and Bertha Lavina (Barton) Berry. On December 19, 1929, in Gray Ridge, Mo., she was united in marriage to William Haynes Lowery, who preceded her in death on January 15, 1979.

Also preceding her in death were her parents; one son, Rev. James Lowery, five brothers, B.C. Berry, Ralph Berry, Charley Berry, Bob Berry, Odis Berry; and three sisters, Mamie McKean, Goldie Hatchett and Mable Gibson.

Surviving are two daughters and sons-in-laws, Alice and Lloyd Hankins of Malden and Frankie and Johnny Dell of Malden; four sons and daughters-in-law, Winslow and Thelma Lowery of Ferguson, Mo., Bill and Ruth Lowery of Bella Vista, Ark., Bob and Mae Lowery of Eureka, Mo., and Ronald and Nancy Lowery of St. Ann, Mo.; one daughter-in-law, Betty Lowery of Dalton City, Ill.; one half sister, Lillie Berry of Port Townsend, Wash., two half brothers, Delmer Berry of Moore, Okla., and Donald Berry of Paragould, Ark.; 17 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren and 17 great-great grandchildren.

Visitation was held Thursday, August 11, at Bradshaw Funeral Home in Malden. Funeral services were conducted on Friday, August 12, in the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Earl Dell and Rev. Jeff Krupinski officiating. Burial was in Memorial Garden Cemetery at Kennett. Bradshaw Funeral Home of Malden was in charge of arrangements.
