John Wesley Fields, 89, of Texas, formerly of Malden, died Monday, June 13, 2011, at Grand Prairie, Texas. He served in U.S. Navy and U.S. Army from 1942 through 1965. He was a member of the First Christian Church.

Born July 7, 1921, in Harrisburg, Ill., he was the son of the late William and Lydia (Ackers) Fields. On March 2, 1946 in Piggott, Ark., he was united in marriage to Mary Baggett, and she survives of the home.

Also surviving are two daughters, Beverley Allen and husband, Duane, of Grand Prairie and Pattie Consolo and husband, Paul, of Sahuarita, Ariz.; one son, John Fields, Jr., and wife, Cheryl, of Gainsville, Texas; seven grandchildren, Jeremy Allen, Scott Allen, Sloane Allen, Warren Eaves, Sara Eaves, Nicole Stamey and Rachel East; five great-grandchildren; two brothers, Donald Fields of Memphis, Tenn., and Jerry Fields of Poplar Bluff, and two sisters, Mary Lou Zissou of Calif., and Helen Chasteen of Dexter.

He was preceded in death by his parents; infant daughter, Sharon Fields, two brothers, Rayburn and David fields and three sisters, Ruby Mantia, Wilma Schroy and Mildred Zelezic.

Visitation was held Tuesday, June 21, at Landess Funeral Home in Malden. Funeral services followed immediately in the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Jeff Krupinski officiating. Burial was in Memorial Park Cemetery at Malden. Landess Funeral Home of Malden was in charge of arrangements.
