Clyde Laverne Batten, 73, of Malden died Wednesday, May 11, 2011, at his residence in Malden. He was a retired U.S. Navy veteran who served during Vietnam. He was a member of the Malden American Legion and affiliated with Lynn Oak General Baptist Church in Clarkton.

Born in Brosley on August 17, 1937, he was the son of the late Herschel and Ida Elizabeth (Cato) Batten. His first spouse Catherine Venture preceded him in death. On April 28, 1984, in Clarkton, he was united in marriage to JoAnn Boland Wiseman, who survives of the home in Malden.

Also surviving are two sons, Clyde Batten, Jr. and wife, Jay, of Galveston, Texas, and Robert Batten of Galveston; three daughters, Sheila Raymond and husband, Kevin, of White Lake, Mich., Catherine Saylor and husband, John, of Gary, Ind., and Darlene Batten of St. Louis; five step-sons, David Wiseman and wife, Joy of Malden, Randol Wiseman and wife, JoBeth, of Malden, Terry Wiseman and wife, Lola, of Kingston Springs, Tenn., Lester "Polecat" Wiseman and wife, Annette, of Malden, Mikel Wiseman and wife, Debbie, of Malden; four brothers, Harry Lee Batten of Stewart, Tenn., Kenneth Batten of Chester, Ill., Dennis Batten of Temple, Texas, and Rondal Batten of Doniphan, 23 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one son, Gary Batten, two brothers, Adon Batten and Edwin Batten and one sister, Norma Jean Batten.

Visitation was held Thursday, May 12, at the Bradshaw Funeral Home in Malden. Funeral services were conducted Friday, May 13, in the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Randol Wiseman officiating. Burial with Military Rites was in Stanfield Cemetery at Clarkton. Bradshaw Funeral Home of Malden was in charge of arrangements.
