Samuel Gibson Cowart, 88, of Cape Girardeau died Monday, March 28, 2011, at Saint Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau. A retired employee of Federal Mogul and the City of Malden, he was a member of American Legion in Malden and affiliated with Assembly of God church.

Born Jan. 2, 1923 in Kennett, he was the son of the late Ned and Elsie (Offord) Cowart. On Aug. 31, 1940, he was united in marriage to Mable Jordan, who preceded him in death Sept. 16, 1991. On June 16, 1953, in Ark., he married Helen Cluck St.Cin, who survives.

Also surviving are one son, Samuel Ray and wife, Patricia, of Coring, Ark.; three daughters, Jeanne Huddleston and husband, Larry, of Shawnee, Kan., Barbara Rawls of Scott City and Brenda Uelsman and husband, Herman, of Cape Girardeau; 14 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren, four great-great-grandchildren and host of other relatives.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one daughter, Sharon Barnett; two sons, Robert Cowart and Junior St.Cin and three brothers, John Cowart, Bill Cowart and Charlie Cowart.

Visitation will be today, Wednesday, March 30, 2011 at 11:00 am at Bradshaw Funeral Home in Malden. Funeral services will follow immediately in the funeral home chapel with Rev. Earnest Puckett officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery at Malden. Bradshaw Funeral Home of Malden is in charge of arrangements.
