Roger L. Stephens, 85, of Columbus, Miss., formerly of Muscle Shoals and Florence, Ala., died Sunday, April 17, 2011.
Visitation will be from 12:30 p.m. to 2 p.m., Wednesday, April 20, 2011, at Chisholm Hills Church of Christ, with funeral services immediately following at 2 p.m.
Burial will follow in the Colbert Memorial Gardens.
Mr. Stephens was born Oct. 16, 1925 to Clarence L. Stephens and Johnnie Rogers Stephens in Glendale, Calif.
He spent his latter childhood and teenage years in Caruthersville, Mo. Following high school graduation, he attended Schreiner Institute in Kerrville, Texas and the University of Texas. As an Industrial Engineer, he worked for Ford Motor Company, Sheffield, Ala., where he retired in 1982. He was a past member of the Muscle Shoals Lions' Club and served as an elder in the Church of Christ.
Mr. Stephens is survived by his wife, Lois Underwood Stephens, of Columbus; four daughters, Kathy Goodwin and husband, Pete, of McKinney, Texas, Lisa Salem and husband, Tim, of Houston, Texas, Shannon Sanford and husband, Barry, of Columbus, and Christy Littlefield and husband, Scott, of Boca Raton, Fla.; 11 grandchildren, Tracy Brown, Britney Kerley, Courtney Phillips, Brady Brown, Stephen Sanford, Skyler Sanford, Alaina LIttlefield, Griffin Littlefield, Noah Salem, Brent Salem, Benjamin Salem and five great-grandchildren.
Family and friends will serve as pallbearers. The family would like to extend a special thank you for the exceptional care and love offered to Mr. Stephens over the past year and a half by Dr. James Woodard and the excellent staff and directors of Trinity Healthcare Center, Columbus, MS.
