Joy Wayne Holmes, son of the late Dolphus Monroe and Nolie Eugene King Holmes was born in Senath, Mo., on September 6, 1925, and departed this life Wednesday, March 30, 2011, at Twin Rivers Regional Medical Center in Kennett, at the age of 85.
Mr. Holmes was a US Army veteran, a graduate of the Senath Class of 1944, member of the Senath Cemetery and Housing Authority Board, and a member of the American Legion in Senath.
On June 12, 1948, in Piggott, Ark., he married Margie Lea Chipman, who survives.
Survivors include his wife, Margie Holmes of Senath; two sons, Roddy Holmes and Jackie McCormick, and Kaven Holmes and wife, Glenda, all of Senath; one daughter, Paula Miller and husband, Mark, of Cordova, Tenn; six grand-sons, John Holmes, of Senath, Steven Holmes, of Cumming, Ga., Kevin Holmes, of Little Rock, Ark., Greg Payne, of Franklinton, La., Aaron Miller, of Baltimore, Md., and James Keen, of Oxford, Ms.; two grand-daughters, Autumn Holmes, of Kennett, and Sarah Miller, of Cordova.; two great-grandsons, six great-grand-daughters, and several nieces, nephews, cousins, and other relatives and many friends.
He was preceded in death by four brothers, Clevie, CB "Tatch"Holmes, Rayburn Holmes, and L.D. Holmes; three sisters, Lera Autry, Oberlon Isbell, and Vilda Ruddick.
Visitation will be from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m., Friday, April 1, at the McDaniel Funeral Home Chapel in Senath.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m., Saturday, April 2, at the First Baptist Church in Senath with Rev. Kevin Sullivan officiating.
Burial will be in the Senath Cemetery.
Pallbearers are Steven Holmes, Kevin Holmes, John Holmes, James Keen, John Wilcox, Dana Autry, and Don Higgins.
Memorials may be made to the Senath Cemetery or the First Baptist Church.
