Orville Woodrow Cross, son of the late Frank and Bell Atnip Cross was born in Holcomb, Mo., Jan. 1, 1917, and departed this life Sunday, March 27, 2011, at the age of 94 years 2 months and 27 days.

Orville was a US Marine Corps veteran serving during World War II.

He married Martha Ellen Matthews who preceded him in death, and to this union two sons were born. He is survived by his two sons, Bill Cross and wife, Jill, of Holcomb, and Ronald Cross, of Holcomb, and three grandchildren, Rhonda Erwin, of Denver, Colo., Brook Walters, of White Oak, Mo., and Deana Houart, of Holcomb. He is further survived by his great-grandchildren, Taylor Juergens, Britt Juergens, Garrett Young, Gavin Merritt, Dustin Houart, Macy Houart, and Nathan Cross, and one great-great-grandson, Jacob Juergens. He is also survived by one sister, Martha Hayden, of Cahokia, Ill., who turned 103 years young on March 26, 2011, and one brother, Pete Cross, of Holcomb.

He was preceded in death by his daughter-in-law, Joyce Cross; his grandson, Tony Cross; his sister, Antha Cross Markum, and his brother, William Riley Cross, who died while serving in the US Navy during World War II.

Graveside services were held at 10:30 a.m., today, Tuesday, March 29, in the Pine City Cemetery at Holcomb.

McDaniel Funeral Home of Kennett was in charge of the arrangements.
