Brenda Spence
Brenda J. Spence, of Sikeston, Mo., passed away from this life to the next on Sunday, Jan. 23, 2011, at the age of 60, at the St. Francis Hospital, Cape Girardeau, Missouri.

She was born December 19, 1950 in Kennett, Missouri.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Syble and Paul Kelley, and Raymond Spence. Her son, Jonathan Kyle Spence, preceded her in death on June 29, 2002.

She is survived by three sisters, Sandra K. Spence, of Sikeston, Sheila Thompson and husband, Tim, of Byhalia, Miss., and Joyce South, of Warrensburg, Mo.; two brothers, Don Spence and wife, Barbara, of Kennett, and Richard Spence, of Chicago, Ill., and one step-brother, Bill Kelley of Chicago. She is also survived by four nephews, Ray Spence and wife, Christy, of Kennett, Stephen Paul Reid and wife, Jennifer, of Olive Branch, Miss., Andre Etcheverry, of Benton, Mo., and Adam Spence, of Chicago, and one step-nephew, Ricky Thompson and wife, Shara, of Byhalia. Other survivors include three nieces, Sharon Richards and husband, Steve, of Warrensburg, Angela Spence of Chicago, Ashley Spence and husband, Ryan, of Westmont, Ill.; one step-niece, Mary Thompson, of Olive Branch; four great nephews, Nathan Spence and Andrew Spence, both of Kennett, Chris Hanna, of St. Louis, Mo., and Ryan Davis, of Westmont, Ill.; two step-great nephews, Cameron Felt, of Olive Branch, and Cole Thompson, of Byhalia; two great nieces, Brandi Hartlein, of Warrensburg, and Shelby Spence, of Kennett, and one step-great niece, Lily Davis, of Westmont.

Brenda graduated from Kennett High School in 1968 and retired from the Social Security Administration in January 2010 with 34 years of service. She was a talented "Miss Fix-It", an avid golfer, and enjoyed traveling and many outdoor activities, including gardening and yard work.

Her final request to family and friends was to "Rejoice with me for I am happy now. I've gone home to be with Jonathan and our Lord". She will be greatly missed by her family and friends.

Friends may call from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m., today, Tuesday, Jan. 25, at Ponder Funeral Home in Sikeston where funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m., Wednesday, Jan. 26 . Rev. Geoff Posegate, pastor of First United Methodist Church, will officiate.

Burial will follow in the Memorial Gardens Cemetery at Kennett.

Pallbearers are Mike Jackson, Tim Thompson, Stephen Paul Reid, Ray Spence, Ricky Thompson and Kevin Bonee.
