John "JT" Hays, 81, of Clarkton died Wednesday, Oct. 13, 2010, at his residence. He retired from Federal Mogul of Malden in 1993 and was a member of the Stanfield Baptist Church. He also retired from the Army and the National Guard in 1989 and was a member of American Legion Post #293 in Malden.
Born on Dec. 30, 1928, in Norfork, Ark., he was the son of Walter and Edna (White) Hays. On Aug. 23, 1954, in Hernando, Miss., he was united in marriage to the former Shirley Akridge and she survives of the home in Clarkton.
Also surviving are two sons and daughters-in-law, Russell and Debbie Hays of Piedmont and Eric and Susie Hays of Malden; two step-granddaughters, Susan McCormick and husband, Frank, of Cleveland, Tenn., and Meredith Garris and husband, Tim, of Malden; three step-great-granddaughters, Lexi and Ashley Lambott of Cleveland, Tenn., and Kailee Garris of Malden; two steo-great-grandsons, Parker and Case McCormick of Malden; two sisters, Sue Kinnon of Bradenton, Fla., and Virginia Langley and husband, David of Michigan; three brothers, Bill Hays of Michigan, Alvin Hayes and wife, Jannifer of Morrisville, Mo., and Calvin Hays and wife, Judy, of Arlington, Texas; and one great dog, Freedom.
He was preceded in death by his parents,; four brothers, Paul, Dairl, Harlin and James Hays; and two sisters, Opal Turner and Sylvia Norwood.
Visitation was held at the Landess Funeral Home on Thursday, Oct. 14. Funeral services were held in the funeral home chapel on Friday, Oct. 15, with the Rev. Jack Allen officiating. Burial was in the Stanfield Cemetery at Clarkton. Landess Funeral Home of Malden was in charge of arrangements.
