Janie Juanita Peterson, of Kennett, daughter of the late Wiley "Dude" Harmon and Rosie Viola Hall Harmon, was born Oct. 7, 1943, in Octa, Mo. She departed this life on Wednesday, Oct. 6, 2010, one day shy of her 67th birthday.
Janie was a former business owner of Peterson's Grocery and Janie's Grocery. Most everyone that knew her referred to her as "Ms. Janie". She loved children and visiting with people. She was a former LaFemme Softball coach, Girl Scout leader and cookie chairman, Headstart teacher, past president of the Kennett Jaycee Wives, and a charter member and four time past president of the Fraternal Order of the Eagles Auxiliary.
Janie was married to Bobby J. Peterson in Kennett on July 17, 1964, who survives her. Other survivors include two daughters, Kim Short and husband, Jack, and Kathy Rogers and husband, Brian; grandchildren, Drake Daniels, Abbigail Daniels, Grant Rogers and Coby Jo Short, all of Kennett. She is also survived by two special sisters-in-law, Alice Harmon, of Rector, Ark., and Marie Provance, of Malden, Mo., as well as her constant companion, Molly Gail, her Boston Terrier.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a grandson, Garrett Short, and three brothers, Wylie Harmon, Houston Carter and E.J. Carter.
In lieu of flowers the family request that memorials be made to her charity of choice, The Garrett Short Athletic Memorial Scholarship Fund at Senath State Bank.
Visitation was held from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 9, at McDaniel Funeral Home in Kennett with a private graveside service immediately following at Oak Ridge Cemetery in Kennett.
Pallbearers were Brian Rogers, Jack Short, Drake Daniels, Abbigail Daniels, Ed Blanchard and Aaron Keith Harmon.
Honorary pallbearers were Coby Jo Short and Grant Rogers.
