Benny Joe Nelson, 61, of Malden died Sunday, Aug. 22, 2010, at his residence. He attended the Voice of Zion Church in Malden and was employed by WW Wood in Dudley. He was a veteran of the U.S. Marines, having served in Vietnam.

Born April 17, 1949, in Lilbourn, he was the son of Ruby (Keel) Nelson and the late Clark Nelson. He was married to Brenda Watson in Lilbourn on Sept. 20, 1975.

Survivors include one daughter and son-in-law, Christa and Richard Bowles of Florence, Ala.; one son, Bradley Nelson of Malden; his mother, Ruby Nelson of Malden; five sisters, Freda Long and Betty Davis, both of Malden, Virginia Sartin of Haleyville, Ala., Barbara Warren of Little Rock, Ark., and Ruth Parker of Cape Girardeau; and seven grandchildren, Dakota Murphy, Justin Murphy, Mitchell Nelson, Bryce Nelson, Breaunna Nelson and Chryslynn Nelson.

In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by one daughter, Chrystal Nelson; one brother, Sonny Nelson; and one sister, Patsy Nelson.

Visitation was held Tuesday, Aug. 24, at the Bradshaw Funeral Home in Malden. Funeral services were conducted at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 25, in the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Roger Fowler officiating. Burial with military rites will follow at the Rosewood Cemetery in Malden. Bradshaw Funeral Home of Malden is in charge of arrangements.
