Ward was born Nov. 7, 1936, in Qulin. He was raised in the upper Davis area south of Qulin. After being discharged from the Air Force he lived in St. Louis until 1972 when he moved back to this area. He worked at John Cochran VAMC in St. Louis and John J. Pershing VAMC in Poplar Bluff until his retirement. He served in the Air Force during the Korean War. He enjoyed playing softball and volleyball.
On Nov. 19, 1960, he was united in marriage with Martha Cox in St. Louis, Mo. She survives.
Survivors also include one daughter, Shonda Ward, of Kennett; one brother, Tilden Thomasson, of Grandin, Mo.; two sisters, Lois Lambert, of Pollard, Ark., and Wilma Atchison, of St. Louis.
Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m., Thursday, July 29, at White-Sanders Funeral Home in Qulin.
Funeral services will follow at 11 a.m., in the funeral home chapel.
Burial will be in the Cochran Cemetery at Poplar Bluff, Mo., with full military honors.
