Born Near Monette, Ark., son of the late Henry Columbus and Sarah Gauf Hollis, he was a U.S. Army veteran, having served in WWII, was a farmer early in life near Arbyrd, Mo., and was a member of the Leachville Church of Christ. He also lived in Paragould, Ark., for many years and retried from Ely Walker Company before returning to the Leachville area 10 years ago.
Survivors include his wife of 63 years, Wayva Ross Hollis, of Leachville; two daughters, Tamara Rose and husband, Hugh Wayne, of Leachville, and Mary Higgs and husband Steve, of Paragould; six grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren, and a very special niece, Marie Mahoney, of Independence, Mo.
He was preceded in death by his parents; five sisters; one brother; one grandson, and two great-granddaughters.
Funeral services were held at 1 p.m., today, Tuesday, June 22, at Howard Funeral Service Chapel in Leachville with Roger Chaffin officiating.
Burial with military honors were held in the Memorial Gardens Cemetery at Kennett.
