Elvis Vernon "Luke" Carter passed away Tuesday, June 1, 2010 at St. Bernard's Regional Medical Center in Jonesboro, Ark.

Mr. Carter was born in Leachville, Ark., on Sept. 29, 1922, to the late D.C. "Dunk" and Rosalee Carter.

He served in the U.S. Army during WWII in the Philippine Islands.

Luke was a U.S. Postal Rural Carrier until he retired in 1985, and he was a deacon for many years at Kennett First Baptist Church.

Mr. Carter is survived by his wife of 63 years, Blanche; his son, Brad and his wife Mary Beth and two granddaughters, Stacy and Kelly, also a half sister, Martha Schnabel. Mr. Carter was preceded in death by a brother, Nelson "Nub" Carter.

Funeral services will be held Friday, June 4, 2010, at 10 a.m., at First Baptist Church in Kennett. Pastors Ed Jansson and Bob Buster will officiate the service. Visitation will follow at the church. Graveside services for the family will be at Dunklin Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Kennett.

Memorials may be sent to the First Baptist Church Building Fund, 300 St. Francis St. Kennett, Missouri.

McDaniel Funeral Home of Kennett is in charge of arrangements.
