Mary Tidwell was born Feb. 4, 1928, in Randolph, Miss., the daughter of James Thelma and Loy Elizabeth Lindsey. She died Wednesday, May 19, 2010, surrounded by family and friends at her home in Dyersburg. She was 62.
She was a former resident of Deering, Mo. Ms. Tidwell graduated from Deering High School , and earned a Bachelor of Arts degree at the University of Mississippi in Oxford. She taught school in Pontotoc and Tunica, Miss., and in Caruthersville, Mo. area schools. She touched the lives of countless children as a teacher in elementary schools in Mississippi and Missouri for more than 43 years. She was formerly of Robinsonville, Miss., and was born and raised in Randolph, Miss., and the surrounding area. She was a member of Three Oaks Chapel Baptist Church in Dyersburg.
Ms. Tidwell was married to her husband, L.L. "Buddy" Tidwell for 47 years. He preceded her in death in 1994.
She is survived by a daughter, Kay Tidwell; a grandson, Paul Phillips and wife, Samantha, and a great-granddaughter, Peyton Phillips, all of Dyersburg. She is also survived by a sister, Betty Ward, of Blytheville, Ark., and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 7 p.m., today, Friday, May 21, at Three Oaks Chapel Baptist Church with Bro. Bill Phipps officiating. The family will receive visitors from 5 p.m. until service time at the church. Burial with a graveside service will be held at 1 p.m., Saturday, May 22, at the Salmon Cemetery in Randolph, Miss.
Honorary pallbearers will be Keith Ward, Mark Ward, Michael Tidwell, Billy Taylor, Danny Petrie, Ted McNeill, and Wayde Jackson.
The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to Three Oaks Chapel Baptist Church, 1105 Resthome Rd., Dyersburg, Tenn. 38024, or a charity of the donor's choice.
