Johnny was born on June 2, 1941 in Kennett, Mo., the son of Burley and Lillian L. Skelton James. He married Carolyn J. Marler on July 6, 1963 in Kennett.
Johnny was the former owner of Johnny James Monument Company, Johnny James Excavating. He was DeKalb County Deputy Coroner for over 20 years, life member of the DeKalb Moose Club, member of the DeKalb Elks and a member of the DeKalb Masonic Lodge. He was a former champion Golden Gloves boxer in the Tri-State area, and former Tough Man Contest winner. Johnny was a friend to everyone he met and was truly a helpful friend.
He is survived by his wife, Carolyn; three sons, Kevin James, Jade (Susan) James and Jerry James, all of DeKalb; three grandchildren, Amanda, Jessica and Wesley; two great-grandchildren, Jaden and Paiten; two sisters, Shirley Rainey and Rieann Carroll, both of Bloomfield, Mo.; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and his brother, Tommie James.
Visitation will be held from noon to 8 p.m., Saturday, May 22, at the Anderson Funeral Home in DeKalb.
Cremation will take place at the Anderson Funeral Home Crematory with graveside services of cremated remains at Oak Ridge Cemetery in Kennett, Mo., at a later date.
