Sterling Herman Brooks, 80, of Clarkton died Friday, April 30, 2010, at Poplar Bluff Regional Medical Center. He was retired from Doctors Hospital, where he was employed as a janitor, and was of the Pentecostal faith.
Born in Missouri on March 28, 1930, he was the son of the late Claude Lee and Gusta (Collins) Brooks. In 1951 in Osceola, Ark., he married Lilly Hoard Calder, who survives.
Also surviving are three sons, Jerry Brooks and wife, LaDonna, of Clarkton, Larry Brooks and wife, Elaine, of Malden and James Brooks of Poplar Bluff; two daughters, Bertha Winchester of Malden and Virginia Davidson and husband, Calvin, of Malden; eight grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; one great-great-granddaughter; one brother, Claudie Brooks of Colfax, La., and two sisters, Opal Chance of Naylor and Carlene Kingery of Poplar Bluff.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one daughter, Viola Brooks; one sister, Martha Miller; six brothers, Ezra Brooks, Charles Brooks, Sylvester Brooks, Hurshel Brooks, Arvil Miller and Tommy Miller.
Visitation was held Monday, May 3, at Landess Funeral Home in Malden. Funeral services were conducted Tuesday, May 4, in the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Jack Allen officiating. Interment was in Stanfield Cemetery at Clarkton. Landess Funeral Home of Malden was in charge of arrangements. The family suggests memorials may be made to Stanfield Missionary Baptist Church in Clarkton.
