Nelvin J. O'Dell, 84, of Beaver Dam, Colo., formerly of Greenbrier, Ark., passed away Saturday, March 27, 2010, at the Golden Living Center in Beaver Damn.
Nelvin was born the son of Albert and Octavia Prince O'Dell on Sept. 14, 1925, in Arkansas.
He was married to Laura Parish on Oct. 22, 1949. He later married Peggy Kiefer on June 9, 1994.
Nelvin was employed with John Deere of Horicon for over 34 years until his retirement. He served his country in the United States Army during WWII at which point he was honored with the Purple Heart.
Nelvin enjoyed taking hiking trips with his wife Peggy. He was an animal lover and enjoyed reading, especially stories of the Civil War and westerns. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He will be missed.
Survivors include his wife, Peggy, of Beaver Dam; his children, Robert O'Dell and wife, Lori, of Colorado Springs, Colo., Sheila Jahn and husband, Richard, of Crestview, Fla., Ronald O'Dell and wife, Sue, of Horicon, Roger O'Dell, of Brownsville, and Sharon Dennis and husband, Kevin, of Kennesaw, Ga.; his brother, Daniel O'Dell and wife, Marie, of Senath, Mo.; his sisters, Joann Massey and husband, Samuel, of Arbyrd, Mo., Jeanie Glover and husband, Dale, of Senath, Barbara Hanson and husband, Gary, of Horseshoe Bend, Ark., and Shirley Greenfield and husband, Lloyd, of Florissant, Mo.; his grandchildren, Jeremy O'Dell, Julie Lother, Bryan Jahn, Stacy Bozzay, Rachel O'Dell, Sadie O'Dell, Geoffrey Dennis and Katie Dennis; great-grandchildren, Dianna Lother, Marissa Jahn, Miranda Jahn, Steven Bozzay, Sarah Bozzay and Samara Herzog; step-children, James Clark, Mary Clark, Charles Clark, Elizabeth Wolfgang and Jennifer Clark; step-grandchildren, Christopher, Sabrina, Nathaniel, Joshua, Melissa, Ryan, Rachel, Casey, Kenneth Kiesow, Kristopher Kiesow, Amanda Kiesow and Samantha Luick; a step-great-grandson, Brayden Reed, and nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Edward and Albert Jr.; a sister, Noveda and a daughter-in-law, Diane O'Dell.
Visitation will be from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m., Thursday, April 15, at the McDaniel Funeral Home Chapel in Senath.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m., Thursday, April 15, at the McDaniel Funeral Home Chapel in Senath.
Burial will follow in the Senath Cemetery.
