Area residents will be treated to an event not too common for the area this weekend, as Kennett native Greg Haywood brings his "Magical Hypnosis Show" to the SEMO Little Theater.

Haywood, who was born and raised in Kennett, said he got into hypnotism through a love of magic and entertainment.

"All through school, I was into magic and would do birthday parties and shows," Haywood said.

After school, Haywood said he went to Branson, Mo., where he performed for four years as an actor and singer. After Branson, Haywood took his talents to Orlando, Fla., where her performed at Sea World.

Haywood said he later got into hypnotism, and was amazed when he first hypnotized someone.

"The first time I did it and the person fell out, I was like, 'Whoa! This stuff is for real'," Haywood said.

Haywood, who currently performs for a resort company out of Cancun, Mexico, said he decided to bring his show to Kennett to give the residents an opportunity they might not otherwise have.

"With my schedule [in Mexico], I work there for a month and come home for a month," Haywood said. "This is my month off and I though it would be fun to do a show at SEMO Little Theater and do a show for people who wouldn't get the opportunity to see it since I'm in Mexico."

Haywood said his show is a comedy-themed hypnotism show that features the audience. Haywood will pick members of the audience and hypnotize them. Those who are willing to be hypnotized are asked to have an open mind. Haywood said those who do not believe in hypnotism cannot be hypnotized, as they are already self-hypnotized to the idea.

Haywood said his 90-minute show is "very safe" and "just for fun."

The one-man show featuring the audience will take place at 7 p.m., Friday and Saturday, March 5 and 6. Doors will open at 6:30 p.m. Tickets are $10 and can be purchased at the door.

The show is sponsored by Kennett National Bank, Baker Farm & Hardware, and Hoskins Trucking.
