Ben T. Griffin, 84, passed away Monday, Feb. 22, 2010, at St. Bernards Medical Center in Jonesboro, Ark.
Born June 1, 1925, in Jonesboro, son of the late Ben T. and Dona Griffin, he was raised in Jonesboro, one of 18 children. His father gave each child a choice of 40 acres or two years of college. He chose college and received his BSE Degree in 1948 from Arkansas State University in Jonesboro, received his MSE in 1951 from University of Mississippi in Oxford and his Ed. Sp Work from the University of Tennessee in Knoxville. He taught elementary in Valley View for three years, Business Education in Kennett and Steele, Mo., and Chapin, Ill., for a total of 13 years and served as high school principal for three years, superintendent for 14 years at Deering, Mo. and as superintendent at Summersville, Mo., for 11 years. He loved going to the Senior Center, his cabin at Hardy and to visit with people.
Survivors include his wife of 55 years, Marian Griffin; a daughter and her husband, Kimberly and Mark Rehagen, of Springfield, Mo., a brother, Dores Griffin, of Jonesboro, and several nieces and nephews.
He was also preceded in death by 11 brothers, Henry, Earl, Orville, Howard, Gordon, Donald, Bernard, Iven, Vertis and two infant brothers and five sisters, Agnes Holman, Gladys Watkins and Thelma Elrod and two twin infants.
A celebration of life was held at 10 a.m., Thursday, Feb. 25, at Gregg Funeral Home Chapel in Jonesboro with Dr. Bruce Tippit officiating.
Burial was in the McDaniel Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Rick White, Curtis Griffin, Jay Griffin, Shelby Griffin, Larry Griffin and Gregg Griffin.
