Mayor Roger Wheeler, Sr., noted that one of the projects that was discussed during the meeting involved the high curb located on St. Francis Street in front of the Kennett Cinema.
He added that the officials discussed placing a cross walk at that specific portion of the street, with stripes, to allow for a pedestrian crossing.
The city officials also mentioned the issues of pot holes located on St. Francis Street and the possibility of having the problems corrected.
Wheeler noted that the pot holes discussed were located on St. Francis going in the direction of the west side of the city.
Coinciding with the recent clean out of the ditches, being completed through a project with Dunklin County, the city officials asked MoDOT about replacing some of the culvert tiles.
Street Commission Randy Carter had previously been approved by the Kennett City Council to apply for a grant with MoDOT to widen Industrial Drive and "hopefully replace culverts."
The remodeling of Industrial Drive would consist of a 184-foot-long culvert through the ditch and 10 inches of concrete, according to Carter.
Wheeler noted that the city officials asked for a lot of assistance during the meeting with MoDOT, but the outcome would depend on the city's ability to qualify under certain grant applications.
He added that the majority of the research credit for the meeting with MoDOT goes to Carter and City Engineer Metz Skelton.
"They did all of the work," Wheeler said.
He explained that the MoDOT officials took the information that the city provided back to their main office.
The information would be presented to other MoDOT officials in order to determine which projects could be completed, according to Wheeler.
"They were very optimistic about everything," Wheeler said.
