According to the Pemiscot County Sheriff's Department, deputies were called to Portageville Police Department just before 9 a.m., on Wednesday, concerning a 17-year-old female, who reported that her father, Michael Wayne Spencer, had assaulted her early in the morning.
The victim explained to officers that Spencer punched her in the head and facial areas several times.
Following the victim's interview, she was treated by medical personnel for her injuries, according to Lt. Ryan Holder, of the Pemiscot County Sheriff's Department.
He added that the deputies then learned that the alleged suspect had made comments and threats towards law enforcement officer's should they attempt to make contact with him. The deputies also learned that Spencer was possibly armed with some type of firearm and had possibly barricaded himself inside of the residence, according to Holder.
After acquiring this knowledge, the Sikeston Department of Public Safety Swat Team was requested to assist because of the unknown situation.
Holder noted that, later in the afternoon, officials attempted to make contact with Spencer only to discover that he was leaving the residence in a vehicle.
Officers then attempted to conduct a traffic stop, but the subject began to flee in his pickup truck through a field, according to Holder.
He added that as Spencer led officer's in a chase through a field, and that it was believed that he displayed a weapon towards the officers.
Spencer reached a line of trees in the field where officers were able to take him into custody and seize a weapon and ammunition, according to Holder.
Spencer was arrested for Domestic Assault in the Second Degree, which is a Class C Felony, and Unlawful Use of a Weapon, which is a Class D Felony.
He is currently being held in the Pemiscot County Justice Center with no bond, and additional charges are expected to be filed by the Pemiscot County Prosecutor Mike Hazel.
Assisting agencies in the arrest of Spencer were the Portageville Police Department, Sikeston Department of Public Safety, and Missouri State Highway Patrol, according to Holder.
