She was born June 30, 1935 in Doniphan, Mo., the daughter of Otis L. and Edna Dunlap Bates.
She and Rev. Robert "Bob" Medlock were married June 5, 1954.
Bernice worked at the former Ely-Walker Shirt Factory in Kennett from 1974-1979. She has been a faithful member of Fellowship Baptist Church in Sikeston since 1995, serving in the nursery department, the WMU and Vacation Bible School for many years.
Loving survivors include her husband of 55 years; four daughters, Carol Thurman and Rose Medlock of New Madrid, Debbie (Glynn) Atchley of Grantsburg, Ill., and Judy (Bryan) Montgomery of Sikeston; a son, Robert "Chuck" (Terri) Medlock, Jr. of New Madrid; two sisters, Shirley (Ray) Beck of Columbus, Texas, and Jeannie Atkinson of Salem, Mo., and a special sister-in-law, Anna Bullard of Jackson, Mo.
Also surviving are nine grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers and a sister.
Friends may call from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m., today, Wednesday, at the chapel of McCombs Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Jackson.
Funeral service will be held at 11 a.m., Thursday, Feb. 4, at the funeral home with the Rev. Joe McCullough and Rev. John Rhodes officiating.
Burial will follow in New Bethel Cemetery near Pocahontas, Mo.
