Senath Police Department officer Jerad Callahan, currently the lead investigator in the case, being assisted by Senath Chief of Police Omar Karnes, recently responded to Twin Rivers Regional Medical Center after contact from the Kennett Police Department (KPD), according to Karnes.
He added that the victim had notified their mother of the incident, who transported the juvenile to Twin Rivers Regional Medical Center.
Hospital personnel proceeded to contact the Kennett Police Department, who spoke with the victim, Karnes explained.
He noted that once KPD realized the assault occurred within the city limits of Senath, Callahan was contacted to respond to the incident.
Karnes added that Callahan then collected all paperwork and information pertaining to the case and secured an appointment in Cape Girardeau, Mo., for the victim to have a SAFE-CARE (Sexual Assault Forensic Examination-Child Abuse Resource and Education) exam.
SAFE-CARE exams are needed in child sexual molestation cases and result as being part of the evidence in a court room, according to Karnes.
The SAFE-CARE exams are performed by physicians and nurse practitioners who have received special training in the examination and interview of children who may have been sexually assaulted or physically abused or neglected, according to the Missouri Department of Social Services.
The organization added that the SAFE-CARE Network also helps to reduce the trauma experienced by children who are subjected to sexual abuse or physical abuse/neglect.
The examination includes a complete medical history, comprehensive physical examination, an interview, complete genitalia examination, basic office laboratory procedures, and preparation of the SAFE-CARE form, "SAFE-CARE Network Medical Examination."
Karnes noted that Callahan transported the victim to Cape Girardeau for the SAFE-CARE exam and observed the exams in order to use the exam as evidence in court and testify to the authenticity of the exam.
Charges are currently pending towards a suspect in the investigation, according to Karnes.

God bless this child for reporting the situation to her mother - and to the mother for following through with the hospital and authorities. If the finding are positive, perhaps it will lead to getting another child molester off the streets.
