The offer was made to Wilson following the Board of Education meeting on Tuesday evening and was officially accepted on Wednesday.
Following the announcement, Wilson said he looks forward to the challenges of being superintendent.
"It is a great honor and privilege to be employed as superintendent of such a great school district," Wilson said. "It is going to be a lot of hard work and I look forward to the challenge."
Wilson was one of four applicants, others including Thomas D. Challender of Stet, Mo.; Kevin Goddard of Eminence, Mo.; and Robert Casteel of Jonesboro, Ark.
According to School Board President Matthew Shetley, the board voted to make the offer to Wilson because of the work he has done as assistant superintendent.
"Chris has been a very good assistant superintendent for the past six or seven years and has show that he is ready to step into the position of superintendent," Shetley said. "The board is very pleased with how he has filled [the position of assistant superintendent]."
Shetley noted that the final contract has yet to be signed, however, he hopes to do that today.
As for the position of assistant superintendent, Shetley said it is currently open for applications from inside and outside the district and no deadline has been set for those applications.

Congratulations to Chris Wilson, and to the Kennett School District Board for their decision.
Congratulations to Chris Wilson. I believe I may have taught Chris in first grade at Holcomb Elementary.
