Letha Camille Newingham, 91, of Risco died Monday, Nov. 30, 2009, at the Gideon Care Center in Gideon.
Born in Canalou on Jan. 25, 1918, she was the daughter of the late Ray and Alpha (Boughn) Mitchell. On May, 19, 1940, in Pocahontas, Ark., she was united in marriage to Evert "Fuzzy" Newingham.
She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Risco where she was the WMU director, taught school for 32 years in the Risco and Gideon school systems, graduated from Arkansas State University in 1953 where she was a member of Eta Delta Chapter of Kappa Delta Pi (education honor sorority), and a member of the Order of the Eastern Star in which she served as Worthy, Grand Matron of the Grand Chapter of Missouri, Order of the Eastern Star, in 1978.
Survivors include one son, David Newingham of Risco; one brother, J. D. Smith of Illinois; one grandchild, Sarah Newingham of Creve Coeur; and several nieces and nephews.
Shee was preceded in death by one son, Carland Newingham; one granddaughter, Allison Newingham; two sisters, Deloys McWaters and Earlyne Barnes; and one brother, J. B. Smith.
Visitation with Eastern Star service was held Wednesday, Dec. 2, at Bradshaw Funeral Home in Malden. Funeral services were conducted on Thursday, Dec. 3, in the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Lewis Scott and the Rev. Gene Lancaster officiating. Interment was in Memorial Park Cemetery at Malden. Bradshaw Funeral Home of Malden was in charge of arrangements.
The family suggests memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church of Risco or the Lois J. Newman Fund--Scholarship Fund of the Grand Chapter of Missouri, and sent to Mrs. Marilyn Woods, Grand Secretary, P. O. Box 1065, High Ridge, MO 63049.
