Reuben C. Whitehead, 95, of Bernie died Wednesday, Dec. 2, 2009, at Missouri Southern Healthcare in Dexter.
Born in Dunklin County on Feb. 23, 1914, he was the son of the late Keat and Ethal (Pickens) Whitehead. On Nov. 4, 1939, he married Mary Louise Green in Piggott, Ark.
He was an electrician and a member of the Bethany General Baptist Church.
Surviving are his wife, Mary Louise Whitehead of Bernie; one son, Michael Whitehead of Bernie; one daughter, Carolyn Scales and husband, Joe, of Bernie; two grandchildren, Kelly Owens and husband, Dwight, of Jackson and Heather Thronbough of St. Louis; two great-grandchildren, Krystal Hobgood and husband, Derek, of Bernie and Waylon Owens of Malden; two great-great-grandchildren, Cane Hobgood and Dalton Hobgood, both of Bernie; one niece, Jean Tischner, and one nephew, Jim Whitehead of St. Louis.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, James Whitehead, and three sisters, Dorothy Kelly, Fern Harrison and Velma Phillips.
Visitation was held Friday, Dec. 4, at Landess Funeral Home in Malden. Funeral services followed in the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Bryan Johnson and Dawsey Lee Brown officiating. Interment was in Bethany Cemetery at Campbell. Landess Funeral Home of Malden was in charge of arrangements.
