Lady Tribe wins Bulldog Classic

GIDEON, Mo. -- Jerica Wheeler scored 13 of her team-high 18 points in the fourth quarter as the Kennett Lady Indians pulled away late to take a 63-54 win over Senath-Hornersville in the finals of the Bulldog Classic here Saturday night.

Both teams battled back and forth and no team held more than a five-point lead until the middle of the final period.

With Kennett (3-0) up 44-42, Wheeler hit a basket, followed by a Veronica Amos 3-pointer that put the Lady Tribe up 49-42 and swung the momentum of the game.

Brittney Williams also pumped in 18 points for Kennett to share the scoring lead with Wheeler, while Amos finished with 15.

McKenzie Harris and Seleena Neal each scored 13 points to pace the Lady Lions, while Megan Smith and Natalie Bibbs each finished with 10.

In other girls' action at the Classic, New Madrid downed South Pemiscot 59-20 for third place, while Malden won the consolation trophy with a 58-48 win over Campbell. Portageville captured seventh place with a forfeit by Caruthersville.

In boys' action, Gosnell, Ark. downed Clarkton 82-55 to win the third place trophy, while Hayti took the consolation title over Senath-Hornersville with a 67-50 win and Gideon downed South Pemiscot 84-72 for seventh place.

North Pemiscot and Caruthersville played for the boys' championship.
