Men sentenced in stun gun abuse case

Tuesday, December 1, 2009
Two men charged with using a stun gun on minors in August 2009 appeared in court in October, pleading guilty to the charges.

Clarence Lee Riddell, 48, of Campbell, Mo., and James Steven Riddell, 22, of Texas, appeared in court on Monday, Oct. 19, 2009.

Clarence Riddell plead guilty to the charge of endangering the welfare of a child. He was sentenced to four years in the Missouri Department of Corrections.

James Riddell, Clarence Riddell's son, plead guilty to one count of domestic assault. He was sentenced to four years, however, his sentence was placed in suspension. He will be placed on four years supervised probation and must submit to chemical tests. He is to stay away from the individuals involved in the incident and must pay court costs and $300 restitution.

Malden, Mo., police arrested James Riddell on Tuesday, Aug. 25, and transported him to the Campbell Police Department.

Clarence Riddell was arrested on Thursday, Aug. 27, while making a court appearance on an unrelated charge.

According to officials at the Dunklin County Justice Center, Clarence Riddell, 48, of Campbell, Mo., was making a court appearance on Thursday when the judge had him arrested on an active warrant for allegedly using a stun gun on two of his minor children.

The arrests were the result of an investigation by the Campbell Police Officer David Dillard, the Dunkin County Juvenile Office, and the Division of Family Services in reference to a report of child abuse in which a stun gun was used.

I applaud the judge in this matter. I follow the news stories about stun guns because I market them at Pro Self Defense Products http://www.proselfdefenseproducts.com

I am always trying to learn more about my own products and their uses. It is unfortunate the misuses I find like this.

I just got done reading a story about an Arkasas police officer that use a stun gun on a 10 year old girl and was fired. He wasn't fired for stunning the child. He was fired for not using the accompanying camera to film the incident.

Is there a different law for the police and common citizens using a stun gun on a minor?

I am writing to the DDD News concerning their reports they make about this case.

I believe that if you are going to print a story that you need to get the 'full' story, not just part of the story and that is what this reporter is doing. And before these people who don't know the total truth, should be keeping their opinions to themselves.

I have sat back and hoped that the truth would be printed, but apparantly it isn't. At least not by this reporter (or probably even the paper either).

I am Clarence's ex-wife and I know what actually happened. And this is the truth. If these things actually happened, I would not come in their defense. I even sent notarized papers that I swore the truth before to the Public Defenders office and one was supposed to have been passed on to Clarence's attorney. Of course, either it was handed over to her or it was just ignored like alot of things there.

I spoke with Clarence, his wife, and all the kids on a daily basis up until the night CPS and the police went out on them. In fact, I was on the phone at that time. And if anyone would like to check with my phone service, by all means, they can. And, no, I will not put any minors names in this.

The truth about all this is:

The night before that report was made, I was on the phone with Clarence's wife. And I heard him and the daughter having an argument. No fighting. Or screaming. She wanted to go spend that coming up weekend with her boyfriend at the lake and he said 'NO!!'. Due to a previous problem that they had with her, Clarence told her that she wasn't going off for the weekend with that boy and he was not allowed to come back up to their house. And you know, during those circumstances, I would have done the same thing.

She then made the comment to everyone that she was going to make a report to the school so that she could get her dad out of the house that weekend that way she could go off with her boyfriend. One thing she didn't count on: the big mess she created. He wasn't going to be gone just for the weekend, but for a longer time. This is how my son was involved. She told him to go on back to Texas so that they wouldn't get him, too. However, my son thought she was just joking around. Now we all know it wasn't a joke.

I know Clarence very well and I do know for a fact he did not use a stun gun on these kids at anytime. It was all a bunch of lies for a good time. And if people don't want to believe it,that's fine. But they don't need to be making comments until they know the entire thing.

And I would also like to bring attention to something else. This paper and publisher has been so quick to throw stories in here about this, then how come they have not one time mentioned anything on the wife, Rose?? It was not mentioned in the paper one time about them arresting her for Child pornography last month. And no, Clarence had no idea that his wife was or did do this. He was in jail and he didn't find out until it came out through her family that they had arrested her and for what reasons. I have not read anything about her case. What is up with this? This media seems to be covering only one side. And there is always two sides.

And just to mention, if you would like to see my statements, you can check with the Public Defender. She received them. And you can compare them what I am posting on my comment now. This is the truth: Clarence nor Steven did what they were accused of. The only reason Clarence got sentenced was because he needed a better lawyer. The one he had didn't seem to want to do anything.
