Attorney warns police of behaviors that could be 'misconceived' as harassment

Tuesday, November 24, 2009
CARDWELL, Mo.--Cardwell City Attorney Terry McVey recently notified the city that some of Cardwell Police Department's actions could be "misconceived" as harassment.

McVey added that he did not believe the officers were doing anything illegal but it could be "misconceived," according to City Clerk Mary Vaughn

The Cardwell City Council hosted a closed session meeting on Tuesday to discuss ensuring that harassment does not occur within the city, according to Vaughn.

She added that the council decided to have the department turn copies of all warning tickets written in to Vaughn, along with citations, which are already handled in this manner.

Vaughn also noted that the council voted to have all citizen complaints within the city to be reviewed by the McVey before being filed.

McVey was unavailable for comment regarding the Cardwell Police Department at press time. Further details will be released once they are available.

In other matters within the City of Cardwell, a precautionary boil water order is currently in effect.

The boil water order is the result of a company hired by AT&T recently cutting through one of the city's water lines.

The company was hired to place a new T3 line for the Southland School District, according to Vaughn.

She added that, in order to have the order lifted, the city would have to send a sample to a health department to have testing completed.

I'm telling ya, this town is crying out for a return to a seat of power by Harvey Beasley. He could single-handedly fix all the city's financial problems, bring law and order to the streets of town, clean up the water, heal the sick, and keep ladies' hosiery from snagging and running off at the heels. He is secretly known as "Mr. Magic" in many circles. I am of the opinion that, if asked nicely, he would be willing to drop whatever important work he may or may not be involved in, and step up to the plate for good old Cardwell and its anxious natives.
