"In 1964, Mayor Sol Astrachan proposed that the city of Kennett needed an organization to provide charitable work for the less fortunate families during the holiday season," said Nick Weatherwax of the Kennett Jaycees. "The Jaycees collaborated with the Mayor's much needed concept and set out to serve those less fortunate in Kennett.
"For the past 49 years, members of the Kennett Jaycees have delivered food and toy baskets to area families in an effort to make the holidays a little better for some of their less fortunate neighbors. The tradition continues this year with the Kennett Good Neighbors Project. The Jaycees are accepting donations for the Good Neighbors Project through December 31."
Weatherwax said anyone wanting to help can send donations to Kennett Good Neighbors P.O. 165, Kennett, Mo., 63857.
"Any amount received would be greatly appreciated and will help those in need especially during the tough economic times that we are facing this holiday season," Weatherwax said.
