Heather Ellis' father, Nathaniel Ellis, and aunt, Luetta Pulliam-Wright, arrive at the Dunklin County Courthouse regarding the case that has made national headlines. Make sure he turns in his blackberry and earpiece before entering the courthouse. The JURY will finally hear the EVIDENCE and the JURY will decide if this lady is guilty as charged or innocent. There are many witnesses that say she did move the other customer's items out of the way so she could go ahead. There are witnesses that say she kicked the cop in the shin and split his lip while resisting arrest.

The ONLY statements that count are the ones heard IN the court room by the JURY. All else doesn't count. The race-baiting NAACP and the other organizations who scream racism without even knowing the evidence mean absolutely NOTHING in that court room. They need to go back in their hole...with Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton....the 2 worst race-baiters in history.

I believe that if she is found guilty she will do no jail time...only a fine and probation. I do believe she will be found guilty. However, as I said, all outside opinions mean nothing. Let lady justice do her duty.

This town is very racist, but racism goes both ways. This family is racist against whites. I am originally from this God awful town in the butthole and I thank God every day that I was able to move away. I will never EVER move back to that part of the country. As for this "circus" of a trial, the woman should have taken the plea bargain when it was offered and since she refused it and wants to make a public spectical out of her self and her family and make Kennett look even worse, i hope she get time.......not 15 years..... but maybe 1 or 2........

I know people on the police force in this town and they are good people. Me, personally, i wouldnt want to just arrest a person, or harrass a person because of their color, because thats my tax money being waisted for your trial, jury and jail time.......

And as for her "minister" father.......what exactly DO you feed you sheep in your "church"? Hate? Racism against whites? A sense of entitlement, just because your black? I owe you nothing because I am white!!!

I never enslaved you or your family nor have i treated your family any different because of their color! If anything!!!! YOU OWE ME!!!

My family is of Native American ancestory and as far as i am concerned you are tresspassing on our property!!!!

SEE!!!! A sense of entitlement can go many ways!!

GET A LIFE!!!!

This entire event is a waste of taxpayers money.

Charged with a crime- Do the time! Ellis family shame on you for degrading Kennett like this. We have had so many promising young adults become famous for their talents and praise the fact they were raised in a town where a community raised them to be what they are today, and giving back as they do for the future generation. Now look what you have brought, what you leave for the children nothing but disgrace! Shame is brought onto you and your family with the chip on your shoulders.

Anyone who fights and hits a police officer should go to jail. ANyone who jumps ahead in line to check should be ask to leave the store or get in line. If anyone is in a hurry they can ask if they can check ahead of me and if I;m not in a hurry I am glad to let them ahead, BUT not ask thats a NO NO. She is a teacher and she should know better. Seems like with all the NAACP behind her she is the raciest one. Does people know what the NAACP stands for. I will not post it because they will say I am raciest. But from what I can see most blacks and those who support the NAACP are the raciest ones. What happened to equal? This country is more devided than it has been in 30 yrs.

Having this much trouble in life is really new to the folks in Kennett. All the rest of us have had our share. Anyway, don't let anger and someone's war turn your wig side-ways. Most of all don't allow your anger to cause your ignorance to show. Most African-Americans have Native-American blood running in their veins, as well as Chinese and European. My family - it's Choctaw, Irish, and African. I have both white and black friends; however,I will not allow other people battles to cause me to get in a tizzy and lose friends that I have made in other races. It's just not worth it.

it makes me sick that the NAACP jumps into every single thing that is regarding a black person and i bet if the cop was black this wouldnt be such an issue. Im not prejudice i have black friends, but they dont act like that and they dont think that all whites owe them something due to what our stupid ancestors done years ago, we cant help what they did. It was a white person that freed them but no one considers that so they are getting money b/c of what their ancestors went though. we celebrate black history month, theres NAACP, black people scholarships ... Yet if there was an entire month to the white race we would be seen as racist or rubbing something in. there arent any scholarships that are mainly for white ppl.. why? b/c we are the majority race? No, not anymore.

Heck we (americans) are even having to learn another language just to get jobs in OUR COUNTRY b/c so many mexicans want to come here and not speak our language. U cant get into some colleges w/out spanish!!!! ridiculous.... Im surprised Obama isnt all over this one like he was over the guy up northeast that broke into his own house and was arrested.

Wow! Some of the comments posted about this case are absolutely ridiculous. There are people on this board trying to appear as if they are of a higher intelligence, failing to realize they truly lack what it takes to even attempt to sound smart. The only thing that is mentioned is "what my stupid ancestors did" and how much that can't be helped, there have been problems with the issue of racism post that wrinkle in history. Also it was mentioned that a white man freed the slaves, the irony in this is the fact that he himself had slaves.

How about for those of us who want to talk about what is going on with this trial find out what's really going on, versus saying ignorant things such as "If anything 'THEY (African Americans) OWE ME'". If you truly believe that then you are gravely mistaken, and I am almost curious as to why such a dim comment would even be stated, but I am afraid you would try to rationalize yourself and appear even more bemused and lost from what's really going on.

And again with the random comments, such as...

"And as for her "minister" father.......what exactly DO you feed you sheep in your "church"? Hate? Racism against whites? A sense of entitlement, just because you're black? I owe you nothing because I am white!!!"

This has to be one of the most irrelevant statements posted. First of all, just because a Black female chooses to file suit against "whites" doesn't mean that she is racist; it simply means that she was done wrong by someone who in this particular situation was white. If a white person was done wrong by an African American, it would be said that they were just trying to get back at "us" for what was done to them so long ago. And the genius comment about what is the minister feeding his "sheep" that wasn't at all related to anything that has been discussed or mentioned so far in this court case, it's just a cheap comment that clearly shows how little of an understanding there is. So we are going to imagine a slate, and wipe it clean and from this point on we are only going to talk about things relevant to the case and that means facts only, not a biased or ignorant statement.

I am sick of it all. She is getting the publicity she wants. Let her get probation or something of the sort. She should pay some kind of consequence. At the very least, she should know by now what a spectacle she is making of herself.

Now, lets just put this crazy "hypothetical" idea out there, what if she is right? All of you seem to have the same idea that she is wrong...when this may not be the case at all. So please stop with all the banter of her wanting and getting the attention she desires.

WOW!!!!!!!!!!!! I have never in my life heard so many ignorant comments!!!

-- Posted by iloveallpeople on Wed, Nov 18, 2009, at 7:06 PM

This just doesn't sound right. I am also from this small town. People should be mindful of the comments they write. What's right is RIGHT!! AND WHAT'S wrong is WRONG!! GOD BLESS EVERYONE IN THIS CASE AND I PRAY THAT HIS JUDGEMENT PREVAILS.

We have a comedian! YAY for br549!

Most of the comments in this thread are all too predictably prejudiced. Legally the court will decide what really happened, although even a court's decision can be factually mistaken, especially if there's a chance for local prejudices to infect it. Meanwhile, many of the comments here show their authors to be woefully misinformed about life in general and about this case in particular.

That said, I have to disagree with a commenter who's otherwise on "my" side:

Abraham Lincoln, who freed slaves by signing the Emancipation Proclamation, never owned a single slave and was long opposed to slavery. He came from a poor, non-slaveholding background and never departed from it himself--even though his wife came from a richer slaveholding family. Other great Americans did own slaves--for instance, George Washington (who came to regret it and freed them in his will) and Thomas Jefferson (who came to oppose slavery but for financial reasons was unable to free his mortgaged slaves). Maybe XXX had one of them in mind.

"EXCUSE ME"! What on earth does any of the History quiz have to to with the fact that this pearson assulted a police officer while resisting arrest after disturbing the peace and being asked to leave wal-mart. Come on KENNETT lets ALL get along.

12 jurors and 2 alternates. Are there both whites and blacks on the jury? It seems there must be, but I'm just wondering about the split.

It will be interesting to hear the verdict, I can't help but believe there will be some holdouts and there won't be a verdict until Friday or later, since this is such a he said/she said, and I read that Ellis must be proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt, and that if, after all evidence is presented, the jury is not fully convinced then she must be found not guilty.

The police could have called her the n word, and be lying about it and the other cops covering it up. One of them could have told her to go back to the ghetto, since there are no recordings we have to go on the cops statements, her statement, and witnesses, and everyone is leaning toward their own side. Very difficult to sort out the truth. You hope cops are honest, but we all know they cover for each other all the time, THE THIN BLUE LINE.

I live in Seattle and we recently had a case where a cop is now terminated for beating up a juvenile in a jail cell, and his partner was suspended for 5 days for lying about evidence (all of it was caught on tape in the jail). One Seattle citizen was so outraged by the partner's lying and covering up for the cop, and his paltry 5 day suspension for it that he assassinated a police officer and attempted to kill his partner (the funeral was a little over a week ago.)

-- Posted by darcy47 on Thu, Nov 19, 2009, at 11:14 AM

I should add, cops are rarely even suspended much less terminated. Months earlier, a transit cop chased a citizen that he thought had committed a crime, tackled him causing him to fly into a cement wall and to this day he's in a coma. He had done nothing, he was not the person they were looking for, the cops were relying on an "eyewitness" that said this young man did commit a crime. It was all mistaken identity. He ran and continued running because they were not in uniform and he apparently feared them, allegedly they did identify themselves before slamming him into the brick wall. Results? No charges, no guilt on his part, they ruled totally in the cops favor. He was a newlywed, had worked all day then went to a nightclub for some drinks before heading home, and his life coming to a tragic almost end, and gazillions in hospital bills.

thanks for pointing out the error with Abe Lincoln not owning slaves, but just as I have (purposely) thrown this in there and as well made an assumption that I should not have, due to a "hypothetical" lack of research or knowledge of facts...this is the same thing that is being done all over this board.

Any who, I totally agree with the "predictable prejudice" that you (wbkelly) mention.

I was born in Kennett..This town is not racist..There are black people on the police force unlike what her father said..She is getting her 15 minutes of fame and a little more..She was wrong for what she did and needs to be punished rightfully for it.I do not belive she should walk or get probation for 2 felony charges on a police officer.
