Johnnie Christin Nichols, passed away Sunday, Oct. 4, 2009, in Bryant, Ark., at the age of 90 years, 10 months and 8 days.
Mrs. Nichols was born Nov. 26, 1918, in Holland, Mo., to W.C. Posey and Ruth Hall Posey. She was united in marriage to William Dee Nichols Jan. 9, 1942, in Caruthersville, Mo.
She was a 1937 graduate of Caruthersville High School. After her marriage she helped her husband with the family farm and gave voice and piano lessons to area children. She dedicated her life to her husband and raising their two children. After her husband's death, Mrs. Nichols moved to Memphis, Tenn., and became the music instructor at Rhodes University where she remained until her retirement. After retiring she moved to Blytheville, Ark., to be nearer to her daughter. She later moved to Grace Care, in Benton, Ark.
Mrs. Nichols is survived by her daughter, Deanna Privett, of Bryant, Ark.; two sisters, Edna Chaffin, of Caruthersville and Helen Mulkey, of Poplar Bluff, Mo.; four grandchildren; four great-grandchildren and numerous relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, W.C. and Ruth Posey; her husband, William Dee Nichols; a son, Edward Posey Nichols and a brother, Clarence William Posey.
Pallbearers were Kris Robertson, Larry Dee Privett, Austin Dale Privett, Byron Dale Privett, Alexander Marc Privett and Gregory Drew Privett.
Visitation was held Wednesday, Oct. 7, at H.S. Smith Funeral Home in Caruthersville.
Funeral services were held immediately following the visitation with Pastor Dave Lewelling officiating.
Burial was in the Little Prairie Cemetery at Caruthersville.
