Holcomb FFA members attend leadership conf., Washington, D.C.

Sunday, November 15, 2009
HOLCOMB, Mo. -- Aside from the usual monthly duties, little was on the agenda for the Holcomb Board of Education during its meting on Thursday evening.

According to Superintendent Jeff Bullock, following the approval of the previous meetings minutes and payment of the district's monthly bills, two Future Farmers of America (FFA) students gave a presentation on an FFA Leadership Conference they attended at Washington, D.C., this past summer.

Bullock said the students, Reagan Collins and Jordan Osborn, gave the presentation under the guidance of Club Sponsor John Osborn.

The conference focused on taking leadership skills to the highest level by learning to know the attendees' purposes, valuing people, taking action, and serving others.

The five day event trained the FFA members to make a positive impact in their schools, communities, state, and country.

The board thanked the students for their presentation.

Also during the meeting, the board announced that its recommendation for the John T. Belcher Scholarship would be Reagan Collins.

The John T. Belcher Memorial Scholarship is a Missouri School Boards' Association (MSBA) scholarship established in the memory of Belcher, who was instrumental in developing a number of innovative financing programs that improved the learning environment for thousands of Missouri public school students. Belcher died in 1989 following a battle with cancer.

The board closed the meeting by adjourning to executive session, in which it accepted the resignation of a teacher's aide, Nikki Pigmon, who will be resigning to go back to school.
