Kennett Educational Foundation continues "Buy a Brick" fundraising program in support of school dist. projects

A program designed to acknowledge local businesses and individuals while raising money to support projects in the Kennett School District is once again underway, as the Kennett Educational Foundation (KEF) begins the next round of the "Buy a Brick" program.

The program, which began in September 2008, offers area businesses and individuals the opportunity to have a their name inscribed on a brick, giving them permanent recognition for their generosity and support.

The KEF said it was very appreciative of all the individuals who bought bricks during the programs first round, and the money raised helped to enrich the education of students in the Kennett School District.

Established in 1995, the foundation has a mission to enhance the quality of education for all students in the district by providing a supplemental source of funds for educational projects, equipment, and programs which directly benefit the students.

According to KEF President Marion Dalton, "The foundation understands the school district is unable to implement many worthwhile programs due to a lack of money. Consequently, the foundation members raise money to fund grants which directly support student learning and activities."

The KEF grant program is designed to improve basic skills and lower drop-out rates; provide opportunities for extended learning outside the classroom; bolster the music, drama, art and athletic programs; purchase scientific laboratory equipment; update technology; and provide reference materials in media centers.

The bricks will be available for purchase through Jan 15, 2010, and will be installed shortly thereafter. The cost of the bricks is $50 for a 4x8 brick, $100 for an 8x8 brick, or $500 for a 12x13 tile. The bricks, which will be inscribed with the purchasers name and a personal message, will be placed in front of the Kennett High School (KHS), around the flagpole.

To purchase a brick, contact a foundation member Ada McHaney at (573) 888-9683 or amc@clgw.net, or log on to the foundation Web site at www.kennetteducationalfoundation.com.
