Victor Downing

Victor Eugene Downing, son of the late John and Betty Finley Downing, was born Sept. 28, 1916 in Portageville, Mo., and departed this life Friday, Oct. 16, 2009, at the age of 93 years. He was a U.S. Army veteran, having served in WWII.

Victor married Mildred Lucille Manley on Jan. 28, 1944. Mildred preceded him in death on Oct. 26, 1976. He was also preceded in death by one son, Johnny Wade Downing; two brothers, Clyde and Vivian Downing and two sisters, Doris Brogden and Helen Wall.

Survivors include one son, Don Downing and his wife Tracy, of Webster Groves, Mo.; one daughter, Vicki Burcham and her husband James Russell, of Littleton, Colo.; 10 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; two sisters, Nelda Newman, of Ardmore, Tenn., and Gerry Schoolfield, of Kissimmee, Fla., and many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

Visitation will be from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m., Friday, Oct. 23 at McDaniel Funeral Home in Kennett with service being held at 2 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 24, at McDaniel Funeral Home Chapel with Russ Burcham and Don Downing officiating.

Burial will follow in Memorial Gardens Cemetery at Kennett.

Grandsons will service as pallbearers, Jay, Scott, Matt, David and Mark Burcham, Dirk and Jack Downing.

Honorary pallbearers are Charles Parker, Tom Duncan, Aaron Ivie, Mike Downing, Wayne Schoolfield and James Chailland.
