Robert H. Brooks, 77, of Rockton, Ill., died at 11:30 a.m., Sunday, Oct. 18, 2009 at Fair Oaks Nursing Center in South Beloit, Ill., after a brief illness.
Born Feb. 15, 1932, in Newport, Ark., the son of James A. and Minnie Brooks. He lived three years in Rockton, Ill., coming from Kennett. He married Rosa L. Usrey Carrell on Nov. 6, 1997, in Kennett.
Robert held various positions in the fruit, agricultural and salvage recycling industries and in his younger years he was a semipro wrestler with a trade name of Mauler. He was of the Pentecostal faith.
Survivors include his wife, Rosie L. Brooks, of Rockton; stepchildren, Ella Moody, of South Beloit, Ill., Delores (Duane) Carter, of Rockton, Brenda (Tim) Brugger, of South Beloit, Christine Morales, of Machesney Park, Ill.; seven grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; sisters, Margie Thomas, of Brandenton, Fla., Hazel Smith, of Festus, Mo., and Edna Hall, of Bellvue, Fla.; brother, Roy (Frances) Brooks, of South Haven, Mich.; sister, Lavonne (Jimmie), Metcalf, of Eugene, Ore., and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and four brothers.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m., Tuesday, Oct. 20, at New Life Tabernacle United Pentecostal Church, 5414 Reimer Drive, Roscoe, Ill., with Brother Pat Giles officiating. Visitation was held one hour prior to service time.
Burial was in Rockton Township Cemetery.
McCorkle Funeral Home, 767 N Blackhawk Blvd., Rockton, Ill. was in charge of arrangements.
